PROJECT SCOPE
St Mark Apartments is a 100 year old downtown Oakland building originally designed as a fire-proof hotel with a 9-story reinforced concrete frame structure. Presently the building houses 102 apartments at the edge of Chinatown. The owner requested a plan to renovate the façade & interiors and to build a 6-story vertical expansion. The architectural team worked closely with engineers to devise a scheme to use the existing structure and also a new independent steel frame. The addition is planned as a contemporary outgrowth of the historic building. Building permits have been obtained for the initial renovation phase. Date: 2008
